1. The inlay needle should be strong and tough
The working condition of the die pin in the die is very bad, it often has to bear huge impact force, so it is easy to break. Therefore, in order to prevent the die pin from breaking suddenly in work, the pin must have high strength and toughness. The toughness of the needle mainly depends on the carbon content, grain size and microstructure of the material, so the material selection of the needle is very important.
2. The insert needle should have wear resistance
When the insert pin is plastic in the mold cavity, it will slide along the surface of the mold cavity, and there is a huge friction between the surface of the mold cavity and the insert pin, so the insert pin is very easy to wear. Therefore, the material for manufacturing the insert needle should have strong wear resistance, which is one of the most basic and important properties of the insert needle. Generally speaking, the higher the hardness of the needle, the smaller the wear, and the better the wear resistance. In addition, the wear resistance of the insert pin is also related to the chemical and physical morphology of carbides in the material.
3. The insert pin should have anti fatigue fracture property
In the process of high-strength work, the long-term use of the die insert often leads to fatigue fracture. Its forms are small energy multiple impact fatigue fracture, tensile fatigue fracture, contact fatigue fracture and bending fatigue fracture. The fatigue fracture performance of the insert pin mainly depends on its strength, toughness, hardness and the content of inclusions in the material. Therefore, the manufacture of the insert pin should select high-quality material suppliers, preferably imported materials.
4. The insert pin should have corrosion resistance
When some inserting needles work in the plastic mold, because of the chlorine, fluorine and other elements in the plastic, they decompose and precipitate HCI, HF and other strong corrosive gases after heating, which erodes the surface of the mold cavity, makes the surface more rough, and makes the inserting needles wear more severely, thus reducing the service life.
5. The needle should have high temperature resistance
The hardness and strength of the insert needle will decrease when it works at a higher temperature for a long time, which will lead to the increase of the early wear or plastic deformation of the insert needle and the die will be scrapped. Therefore, the material of inserting needle should have high tempering stability to ensure that the inserting needle can work at high temperature for a long time.
6. The inlay needle should have cold and hot fatigue resistance
During the working process, the insert needle is always in the state of repeated heating and cooling, which makes the cavity surface subject to tension and pressure stress, causes the cavity surface cracking and spalling, increases the friction, hinders the plastic deformation, and greatly reduces the dimensional accuracy of the insert needle, thus leading to the waste of the insert needle. Therefore, this kind of pins which are often changed in cold and hot environment should have high cold and hot fatigue resistance.
